I was shaking when I took the shot. None of them was looking at me, so I lifted my camera, just trying to get them in frame. When I put it down, they looked over. They didn’t realise I’d taken photos.

Haviv clearly understood the people of the Balkans.  He captured their dark sarcasm and the true desperation of the situation perfectly in this photo.  It is one of my personal favorites from the Blood and Honey collection.

Haviv’s photos have a whole new meaning now that I am in Sarajevo.  Beautiful country, beautiful people, it is such a shame that so much was destroyed over unfortunate circumstance and manipulation.
